Concave game rib engraved "SCOTT's PATENT J & O TREBLE GRIP W & C SCOTT & SON | THE PREMIER GUN (Insignia) 10 Ct CASTLE STREET REGENT CIRCUS LONDON." Chain Damascus dovetail lump barrels with steel front bead. Doll's head rib extension with well executed tight scroll engraving. Underside of barrels with appropriate British proofs but flats are noticeably shortened with the last "L" of "NOT FOR BALL" on one flat obliterated entirely and partially obliterated on the other. Splinter forearm with long tab release, checkered on the inside, with tight well executed scroll on tab, escutcheon and visible portions on iron. There is a 1 - 1/2" chip missing from left side. Case coloring on iron with two of three screws being nitre blued. Action flats with British view marks, patent information, makers mark, and serial number. Sideplate lock with seven pins, again profusely decorated with tight scroll work and "W&C SCOTT & SON" in ribbons, and a Bulino dog at rear. Trigger guard and full length tang with more scroll work. Attractive dolphin form hammers are case colored and masterfully scalloped. Double triggers. Teardrop points, point pattern checkering, and horn pistol grip cap. Vacant gold shield just behind opening lever, which is engraved with scrollwork and flowing "W & C SCOTT & SON PATENT". Highly figured stock terminating in a horn buttplate. Shotgun is accompanied by a contemporary canvas case lined in green felt with separate compartments for accessories. CONDITION: Exceedingly fine as masterfully restored. Retains the vast majority of finish, with the case coloring on the forearm and receiver two different colors, and a few very minor handling marks scattered throughout the gun. Bores are good with some pits. Most likely someone recovered a rather badly mistreated W&C Scott & Son receiver and spent a king's ransom restoring it to wonderful present condition. Canvas case is excellent with one tear from hammer bloc. EW
