With the USMC's adoption of the M1 Garand in 1942, the decision was made to acquire a new .22 caliber training rifle to familiarize soldiers with the M1. Eugene Reising utilized the design of his preexisting Reising Model 50 submachine gun, and created the M65, which was accepted by the U.S. military, who purchased an estimated 6,000-10,000 rifles for training purposes by 1945. This lot consists of two 10 count packs of Harrington & Richardson Reising Model 65 magazines. Magazines are contained within two thick paper sleeves, which are marked "10 MAGAZINE, assembly / B-SA22-61" Line Item #3148/ P.S. Reising, M65". Packs retain a handwritten initials on the top right corner, potentially signifying acknowledgment of receipt. Envelopes are sealed. CONDITION: Very good, with one pack being opened, showing all 10 magazines, which retain heavy amounts of their original factory cosmoline, and the other pack showing no punctures or tears. Acquiring one Reising Model 65 magazine has been proven to be difficult, let alone finding two sealed packs of them. This is a unique and seldom seen item, that would make for a favorable addition to any .22 military trainer collector's ensemble. -MLW-
