Octagonal barrel signed on top flat "GALAND FABRICANT" (Trans: Galand Maker). Horizontally dovetailed front sight, buckhorn style rear, light floral engraving at breech. Patent breech with lever under trigger guard that, when pulled forward, brings the barrel forward and allows the loading of a paper cartridge. Breechloading lever and trigger guard engraved with florals en suite with breech. Rear stepped lock, dolphin form hammer, and buttcap with pommel extension also engraved with florals. Ebony stock engraved with florals throughout. Screws also engraved with florals. CONDITION: Very good, retaining the majority of blue on barrel with consistent flaking to brown throughout. Ebony stock has a break through the wrist that shows evidence of an old repair and appears stable. Two screws on right side have been molested, one rather badly. Action, including breech loading, works appropriately when operated by hand. Bore is excellent, bright and shiny, with strong lands and grooves. An extremely attractive breechloading made by a good French maker. EW
