Octagonal barrels with a central twist in the middle of the barrels, turning the flats 45 degrees and adding short flutes. Top rib of mid section twist signed "Fni Par Gastinne-Renette a Paris". Underside of barrels with Belgian proofs for 11.3mm bullets and a "1" and a "2" for each, denoting a true pair. Hooked patent breeches. Barrel channels in forearm marked with "1" and "2' respectively. Barrels held in place by a single key, also numbered "1" and "2". Stepped case colored locks with line borders and scroll, filed cocks with line, scroll work, dolphin form hammers with scroll work and checkering. Hammer screws blued. U notch rear sight. Lock screw with escutcheon on reverse. Long tangs, spurred trigger guards engraved with scrolls and lined borders, stylized pineapple finials. Case colored buttcaps with extensions. Walnut stocks with point pattern checkering that forms two sections with clear delineation down back. Comes in a wooden case with brass plaque with engraved "BC" intertwined. Lined in green baize with top lid reading "GASTINNE RENETTE / PARIS". Accessories comprise a lead pour, loading mallet, bullet mold with sprue cutter, screwdriver, loading tool, cleaning rod with jag and threaded with exposed end, and two small twist jars, empty. CONDITION: Fine. Barrels retaining the vast majority of their finish with a few minor spots of oxidation on the barrels. One barrel key is damaged at left side. Stocks are very good with a couple bumps and bruises from age; one has two very minor holes in the spine of the grip. Locks with traces of color in protected areas. Hammers and buttcaps with much case color. Accessories are very good with some evidence of use scattered about; cleaning rod with damage toward top. Two holes in top lid of baize lining. Case excellent with some roughness from age and a few relatively tight cracks. A good cased set, undoubtably made for, finished, and retailed by one of the premier French makers. EW
