World War II blade with Showa stamp on nakago, along with signature. Mekugi-ana possibly opened up when blade was remounted. Choji hamon. Gold wash copper habaki. Tsuba with top showing birds in flight with shakudo bird, bottom with two men sitting, mountains, and inletting around nakago-ana, with one piece of copper remaining. Menuki show traces of gilding under a tight blue tsukamaki. Black lacquer saya with single ring. CONDITION: Good. Blade has been polished over some old oxidation and age related staining. Mounts are very good with some rubbing to high edges, but complete. Habaki with some rubbing of gold wash to copper. EW
