Lot consists of (A) Suriage blade, nakago with additional mekugi-ana. Copper catscrach habaki. No visible hamon. Tsuba attractively pierced through with geometrics. Fuchi kashira with clouds. Tsuka-ito is tight. Saya with black and red lacquer. CONDITION: Blade with extensive shintetsu, delamination, and some chipping to cutting edge. Fuchi Kashira are fine with age related patination throughout, tsuka-ito has some tearing at mid knot. Saya has extensive chipping to lacquer throughout and split down front, one strip of strapping tape at top. (B) Ubu nakago with single mekugi-ana, signed on right side of nakago. Plain copper habaki. Blade with no visible hamon. Tsuba of officer type with cherry blossoms at corners. Fuchi with simple punch dot decoration. Floral menuki. Housed in a leather wrapped saya with metal mouth, likely the rest of the scabbard is also metal, but leather covering has been stitched into place. Old cloth at hanger with kanji, and a small bag with a piece of wood (bamboo?) in it. CONDITION: Blade was heavily cleaned over old oxidation and hamon is essentially gone. Several areas of extensive patination at blade and polishing marks throughout. Tsuka-ito with some fraying. Rayskin has some sections missing. Appropriate leather spacer under tsuba which has a clasp which mates to an anchor on scabbard. Scabbard is very good with some rubs and abrasion at high edges but is complete and supple. EW
