This Silver Plated Harrington & Richardson Model 999 Sportsman revolver was presented to Governor George N. Craig on August 5th 1955. Craig was a decorated World War II veteran who served in the European Theater of Operations and would later retire as a Lieutenant Colonel. He would later become the 39th Governor of Indiana from January 1953 - January 1957. The revolver is all steel construction with silver plating that is a nine shot double action break open design. Factory wood checkered grips that are in excellent condition. Bore is clean and shiny with strong rifling. Barrel is factory engraved on right side and reads "Governor George N. Craig." Sides of hammer are jeweled. CONDITION: Gun retains close to 70% original factory silver plating. Underlying copper plating shows on high edge worn portions of the gun. Overall discoloration to grip with original silver finish worn revealing copper plating. Tight lockup and cylinder indexes properly. There is a letter of provenance from the second owner that states the gun was heavily used throughout its lifetime as is displayed by the signs of wear. Overall good condition. This is a very rare example of a model silver plated 999 Sportsman since they were only presented to US Governors according to attached provenance. TB
