Two pieces of silk jacquard weave of a floral motif, blue and white, one 2 1/2 x 1 1/4 inches and the other 3/4 x 3 inches, pinned together. They are folded within an early 19th century note, inscribed in iron gall ink: "A piece of the Bed Curtains and Counterpane of Marie Antoinette, late Queen of France, presented E.M.P. by Mrs. Greene of Philadelphia 1817." "E.M.P." is probably Ebenezer Morgan Phillips, who married Anna Maria Brigham, daughter of Elijah and Sarah Brigham. There is a later note in the hand of Reverend Clark to this effect, as well, clipped from an envelope. CONDITION: in very good condition, silk colors fresh and bright. JLK Provenance: by descent in the General Artemas Ward-Elijah Brigham Family until 2012; private collection to present.
