Manufactured 1861-1862. Butterfield Army, serial number 217. This is a very nice example of the five shot .41 caliber brass frame secondary Army revolver, difficult to find in such fine, complete, functional condition. This gun conforms to other noted early examples marked on top strap in three lines "BUTTERFIELD'S / PATENT DEC 11.1855 / PHILADA". There were only about 640 of these revolvers made. Using a unique disk priming mechanism fed by a tube from bottom of frame forward of trigger guard. CONDITION: Very good and complete with action operating properly. Barrel and cylinder are void of finish and retain light period pitting. Frame is a mellow mustard patina. Grips have repairs at both toes. Rare to find in any condition and accepted as a secondary martial pistol of the Civil War. TDW
