Manufactured in Sheffield in the 1850s. The James Rodgers dual bladed knife pistol consists of a percussion .31 caliber bronze barrel with folding trigger and two folding blades of 3 - 1/2" and 2 - 1/2" with both blades being marked James Rodgers Sheffield on the left ricassos. These wonderful little pistols were sold in the US with etched blades marked "SELF PROTECTOR" and other patriotic motifs. This example is void of any etching however it still retains its small bullet mold and tweezers that are fitted into the butt of the knife and a small compartment for balls. CONDITION: The horn scales are very fine with a pleasant aged staining. The action operates properly. Both blades are tarnished and would benefit from a good cleaning or polish. The point is chipped on the smaller blade. The springs and all mechanics operate fine. A very unique gamblers or Gold Rush collectible. TDW
