Manufactured early 1860's. Type 2 Model 1859 Perrin with serial number 1364. Double action operation and fired a proprietary 12mm internally primed cartridge. The Perrin was extremely advanced for its period of manufacture and a very small contract of 1000 revolvers were sold to the US Government in 1862 for issue to Government troops. This example finished in the white is marked "PERRIN / & Cie Bvt" on left side of frame forward of cylinder. As well as being marked with a small sunburst over "PARIS" on opposite side. Serial numbered on cylinder as well as bottom of barrel. Fitted with a smooth one piece walnut grip with steel butt cap and lanyard swivel. A rotating ejector is affixed to the rear of the barrel. These extremely rare revolvers are not often encountered and when found are typically in poor condition. The example is houses in a tooled calfskin lined moroccan leather holster. Holster has two 1" steel rings on back for affixing to holster or carry strap. CONDITION. Very fine as cleaned. Bore and chambers are excellent being bright and bore having sharp rifling. Action operates properly and locks up solidly. The grips are very good, full sized, and without material loss. Several minor bruises and period scratches are evident but do not detract from revolver. The leather holster is very fine with solid stitching and supple leather. TDW
