This bold signature by Lincoln uses his full first and last name, the formal manner he reserved for official documents and communications of special importance, rather a simple first initial and last name. The signature has solid lines with good color and there are no folds or creases. The very tips of the lower ends of letters in a line above show at the top of the matted opening, but do not interlude into the signature. A small red mark at bottom might perhaps be from an official seal. Presidential signatures were required on a number of government appointments, military commissions, etc. This was certainly removed from one of those to preserve it. Andrew Johnson's signatures were often placed on documents with an ink stamp. With Lincoln's signature, you can feel him move the pen across the paper or vellum. This is nicely presented in a double mat with a portrait of Lincoln and a small display card in a gilt-edged frame with raised floral scrolls, ready to display. SR
