Rare and desirable documented Northwest Mounted Police Model 1876 saddle ring carbine. Accompanying the carbine is a letter from the Buffalo Bill Historical Center dated January 19, 1996 stating: "JUST A QUICK LETTER TO INFORM YOU THAT YOUR WINCHESTER MODEL 1876 SERIAL NUMBER 45394 HAS BEEN NOTED AS A NORTHWEST MOUNTED POLICE FIREARM. THE DOCUMENTATION OF THIS CAN BE FOUND IN THE ARMS & ACCOUTERMENTS OF THE MOUNTED POLICE (1873-1973) BY ROGER F. PHILLIPS AND DONALD J. KLANCHER" Signed Sondra Paxton, CFM Membership Assistant. Also accompanying the gun is a Winchester Museum Letter documenting serial number 45394 as a carbine, received and shipped from the warehouse on April 18, 1885 with 199 other arms to order number 20202. Carbine has correct 22" round barrel with full length forearm and steel forearm cap. Plain straight grain walnut stock with carbine style steel buttplate. Full blue with case hardened hammer and lever. Saddle ring mounted to left side of receiver. Correct N.W.M.P special rear barrel sight graduated in meters, marked on the left side with numbers 1-5. The fold down leaf is marked 2-10. Carbine type post front sight. Correct N.W.M.P cartouche located on right side of stock at the butt. CONDITION: Excellent with traces of original finish. Overall a pleasing blue/brown patina. Bore is excellent showing very light abrasion. Action is tight and crisp. Overall above average condition. An historic and very desirable Northwest Mounted Police carbine. -MKS-
