Manufactured in 1871. Matching serial number 197109 has been observed on the cylinder arbor, cylinder, barrel, frame, trigger guard, and back strap. This Colt Model 1860 Army revolver was factory converted to fire the newly developed Colt .44 caliber centerfire cartridge. Blue with case hardened frame and hammer. Brass trigger guard and blued steel backstrap. One piece walnut grip. 8" barrel, rebated cylinder with roll die naval battle scene. An interesting story accompanies the gun by way of a hand written letter stating the gun was originally purchased by an early Western frontiersman named John Jonnason. Mr. Jonnason allegedly was with a wagon train heading to South Dakota in the early 1870s when this revolver accidentally fell out of his holster along the trail. Mr. Jonnason went back and luckily found his prized new revolver to discover it had been run over by one of the wagons. To add credence to this story, the revolver today has a fairly large dent to the right side grip. No other damage exists. CONDITION: Excellent with traces of original blue on the barrel. Traces of original case color on the hammer and frame. Overall a pleasing blue/brown patina. Bore is near excellent with modest abrasion. Action is tight and crisp. A very colorful western frontier revolver with great eye appeal and history. -MKS-
