(A) Model 1840 Light Artillery Officer's Saber and Scabbard. Brass hilt cast with foliate designs, wire-wrapped leather grip, ricasso marked on 1 side "PHILADELPHIA", and "HORSTMANN/& SONS" on the reverse. Steel scabbard with two carrying loops. CONDITION: Bright blade with clear sharp markings, grip very good with minor wear. Scabbard is mostly smooth and grey with areas of dark staining. (B) Model 1840 Light Artillery Saber and Scabbard. Ricasso marked "US J.C.W. 1865" and "Ames Mfg Co Chicopee Mass" on the reverse, guard exhibits old nickle plating, lacks grip wire. Steel scabbard with 2 carrying loops. CONDITION: Blade is generally smooth and dark with grey areas, grip leather shows wear. Scabbard exhibits a dark surface with areas of minor surface roughness.
