(A) The nickel plated blade of the Police Dress Bayont is maker marked for the firm of Weyersberg Kirschbaum, Solingen, also known as WKC. The blade exhibits light patina and an area of freckling along the blades spine. The cross guard and hilt of the dagger is made of nickel plated brass with an even light patina and a few scattered superficial marks. The stag bone grips exhibit an even patina, and have been period fitted with an aluminum Police emblem. The lower guard is marked "S.B. 6023" which matches the marking on its scabbard. The leather scabbard has a few areas of light marks, but retains nearly all of its original brown finish. The scabbards fittings are also made of nickel plated brass with superficial scattered marks throughout. The scabbards throat fitting is marked with the same "S.B. 6023" mark as the dagger, making this a matching set. An original unmarked leather frog is attached to the scabbard, as well as a police portepee. CONDITION: Overall Excellent to Near Mint. (B) The steel blade on the Third Pattern Fairbanks and Sykes Fighting Knife shows heavy wear, sharpening along its edges, and an even graying throughout. The cast ringed grip shows wear to the high areas, and an even patina throughout. The steel cross guard is evenly patina'd with wear to the edges. The brass retaining nut shows even dark patina and wear to the high points. The leather scabbard is becoming unstitched near the throat area. Both sets of leather tabs are still present. The upper belt tab has become unstitched from the scabbard and is missing. The lower metal drag fitting is still originally stapled in place. The fitting has light corrosion on the reverse and lower portion. CONDITION: Good. D.W.
