During WWII the MG-42 was designed to address several drawbacks found with the MG-34. The MG-42 was largely comprised of stamped components, compared to the MG-34's milled components, the MG-42 saved much time, money, and valuable resources for Germany's war effort. Being more reliable than it's predecessor and having a rate of fire of 1,200 rounds per minute, the MG-42 was appropriately coined "Hitler's Buzzsaw" by US soldiers, who quickly became familiarized with it's distinctive sound. This example's receiver was manufactured by Maget, as indicated by the "cra" code on the left side of the receiver. The receiver has been cut in three separate places and welded back together, as well as filled internally to negate operation of any sort. The left side of the receiver is marked "NC/ MG 42/ 600j/ cra". Waffenamt "WaA147" found on top cover and trigger assembly, indicating manufacture by Grossfuss. Wood wtock is marked "joa/ 1943" above a waffenamt over "WaA866". Bolt can move, but is not under any tension. This MG-42 is complete with a bipod and an unmarked sling. CONDITION: Metal components retain the majority of their reapplied blue finish, showing areas of wear, nicks, and scratches to finish all around. Areas that were cut on the receiver have not been reblued and show surface level corrosion. Unmarked leather sling is good overall, showing areas of wear to surface. A very nice example of one of Germany's most feared and easily recognizable machine guns that was utilized during the Second World War. MLW
