Manufactured by Mauser in 1944. No visible import marks. Receiver is stamped "BYF" over "44" with eagle over "135" waffenamts on the top and right sides. The left side of the receiver is stamped only with the eagle firing proof, with the left side of the barrel retaining the rifles full serial number. "byf" shield, Mauser "135" waffenamt, and "44D625" are also stamped on barrel. Matching numbers include the barrel, floorplate, barrel bands, laminated stock, and upper handguard. Bolt does not match, but matches itself. Trigger guard, magazine follower, and rear sight are unserialized, but are stamped with Mauser eagle over "135" waffenamts. Buttplate is stamped "gqm/ 44" with an eagle over "WaA98" waffenamt, indicating manufacture by Loch & Hartenberger in 1944. Stock has been duffel cut just beneath the rear barrel band. Complete with a period leather sling. CONDITION: Metal components retain the majority of their arsenal applied blue finish. Barrel, barrel bands, floorplate, and trigger guard exhibit some wear and thinning, showing through to brown patina. Bright bore with strong rifling throughout. Stock shows some dings and handling marks all around. A nice late war production Mauser K98. MLW
