Manufactured by Mauser, the receiver is marked "byf" over "44" over the chamber, with the Mauser eagle over "135" waffenamt on the right side and top of the receiver. Matching numbers include the receiver, floorplate, barrel bands, and upper handguard. Bolt is does not match, but matches itself. Stock has "F.G" lightly carved into the left side of the buttstock, and is accompanied by a handwritten sticker on the buttplate stating that this rifle was captured by "Fredrick L. Goodrich" of the 3rd Armored Division during his service in World War II. There is no provenance to substantiate this claim, but it makes for an interesting observation. This rifle is complete with it's period leather sling. CONDITION: Metal components retain the majority of their arsenal applied blue finish, showing some areas of wear and areas of light corrosion that has been cleaned. Barrel bands show the most wear, with the rear barrel band being nearly in the white and turning a grey patina. Bright mirror bore with excellent rifling throughout. Stock shows some dings and gouges, but retains its eagle over "135" waffenamt on the right side of the buttstock. Overall, this is a nice example of a K98 with an interesting backstory. MLW
