Lot consists of (A) Ubu nakago with signature on left side. Silver plated copper habaki. Hamon line totally obscured. Gilt copper tsuba pierced florals and a bird. Copper fuchi kashira with gilt florals, bottom of kashira well decorated with shakudo florals, well executed. Some illegible kanji at top of tsuka. Black lacquer saya, repainted. CONDITION: Fair. Blade and nakago have been cleaned, with remnants of oxidation visible in mekugi and in signature characters. Blade has no visible temper line as a result of cleaning, which covers virtually entire blade. Tsuba and mountings are very good, tsuba with 1 minor dent, tsuka is cracked through. Saya repainted. (B) Ubu nakago, unsigned. Blade with a hazy midare hamon. Catscratch gilt copper habaki. Plain tsuba pierced for associated spearpoint kozuka with horn grip scales, marked "PATENT 70 (?) / CANTON G (?)"; patent and canton clear, 70 and G are not. Iron fuchi kashira decorated with horses. Leather tsuka ito wrap with menuki depicting scrolls and rats. Black lacquer saya relieved for kozuka and with an old woven cord attached through kurikata. CONDITION: Good. Blade with some shintetsu and some minor openings, but mostly bright. Some extremely minor microchips towards boshi. Black lacquer saya is fine with some bumps and bruises from age and cracks in lacquer. Kozuka with oxidation and associated. EW
