Hand engraved "7670" Confederate inventory number on the brass buttplate tang. Proper "B" marking in front of the buttplate tang showing that this gun was provided directly by Bond to a Confederate purchasing agent. The "B" has been freshened a little but is original and correct on this gun. Correct "JS / (Anchor)" mark behind the trigger guard. 3-band configuration. Blade front sight, rear sight with fixed notch and adjustable ladder sight. Correct London commercial proofs on barrel. Lock well marked "E.P. Bond / London". The wood is marked "DYRN" opposite the lock. Brass trigger guard with "16", meaning unknown. Small cross stamp at tang. Correct and period unnumbered ramrod is frozen in channel. CONDITION: Metal is a smooth even chocolate patina. One lock retaining screw replaced. Wood is very good with some scattered marks, has been gently sanded and revarnished, markings are still legible. Action is in good mechanical function. Bore is good with visible rifling and even oxidation throughout. A presentable example of an original Confederate used Civil War Enfield musket. GR
