Rare American made Pattern 1853 Enfield by New York City Gunmaker John P. Moore who was contracted for 22,000 of these muskets. It is estimated that roughly around 1200 of these rifles were sold to the United States by 1863. Most are built from assembled parts with some doubt as to the origin of the parts. This particular gun has a percussion lock dated 1861 and marked with Moore's Trademark Eagle with a "M" behind the hammer. Rifled barrel with blade front sight. Walnut stock with British Proof near buttplate. Brass trigger guard, nosepiece and buttplate. Three iron barrel bands with steel ramrod. Rare and desirable obscure piece of Civil War History. CONDITION: Metal turning a silvery patina with some pitting. Wood has been cleaned with usage marks and dings. Good markings with good mechanics. Poor bore with no visible rifling. Missing rear sling swivel loop. DLM
