Utah Indian War Veteran Medal, reverse marked "Presented By The State of Utah To" and stamped "Samuel T. Curtis". Included are copies of Curtis' service records which state that he served from the 9th of April 1853 as a Private in Steven C Perry's militia company during the Walker Indian War. Included is a copy of an account written by Curtis of a skirmish on October 2, 1853 in which "eight Indians were killed and one squaw and two boys taken prisoners.". He also relates an account of finding the remains of "Thomas Clark under the wheat in the wagon. He had been scalped, his head crushed and his body cut open and his heart taken out". CONDITION: Planchet and top bar in excellent condition, original ribbon showing moderate wear. DG
