47-1/2" long and 8-3/4" wide. Circa last half of the 19th century. Phase one style pipe tomahawk head with acorn shape bowl, oval eye, and chevron. Head is attached to 47-1/2" Native American haft from the bottom up as the oval eye is tapered, four square nails have been used to secure head in place. It appears that this would be the ultimate Indian weapon from horseback. Tomahawk blade has been bent sideways to make it a more efficient killing weapon. Clearly was used at one time for smoking. The haft is not hollow therefore cannot be smoked. This item has fantastic patina and has seen much use. Comes with a tag noting that the piece was handed down from a Chickasaw family and carried to the Oklahoma Territory during the Indian removal. We cannot confirm this information. CONDITION: Good.
Item Dimensions: 47 - 1/2" x 9" x 3 - 1/2".
