Charles M. Russell letter to a friend. Framed and matted letter measures 7-1/2" X 5-1/4". Overall measurement is 16" X 14-1/4". Charles Marion Russell (1864-1926) initially worked as a cowboy and a wrangler. He retired in 1893 to become a full-time artist. Internationally recognized, Russell created over 4000 works of art in his life time including well known paintings and bronzes. The letter states: "Friend I received your letter and also paint and am much obliged to you with best regards yours sincerly [sic] CM Russell". Next to Russell's name is his signature buffalo skull drawing. Included is a Letter of Authenticity from Frederic G. Renner. In Mr. Renner's opinion, the letter is unquestionably in the artist's hand and was written to Charles Schatzlein, who operated an art and paint store in Butte, Montana. Frederic and his wife Ginger documented and cataloged Russell's works. Their research is housed in the C.M. Museum in Great Falls, Montana. CONDITION: Excellent. CG
