Oil on canvas board portrait by Frederick Sands Brunner. Brunner was born in Boyertown, Pennsylvania and attended the Pennsylvania Museum and School of Industrial Art graduating with a diploma in illustration in 1909. Brunner studied at the Pennsylvania Academy and exhibited there as well. He was a staff artist for the Ladies Home Journal for 13 years and then moved to freelance work, providing illustrations for Coca Cola, Kellogg and others. He was commissioned to illustrate two Red Cross posters during World War II. During his working life, Brunner also painted several portraits including this charming image of baby Janet. Label on reverse: "F. SANDS BRUNNER/720 LOCUST ST/PHILA PA/PORTRAIT ....JANET". Canvas repair and inpainting in upper left.
