An illustration for a story called "Tick-a-Lock; Iron Bars". Originally from Indiana, William Liepse attended the Art Institute of Chicago for three years beginning in 1917. He moved to New York in the early 1920's to become an illustrator for The Saturday Evening Post where he had a long and successful career including illustrating the original Charlie Chan novels. Oil on canvas, signed lower left. CONDITION: Minor tear and repair in the lower skirt.
