A pair of illustrations for the book Antonia by George Sand (1804-1876) published by George Barrie & Son and printed in Philadelphia for subscribers only. The illustrator, J.B. Graff was a popular book and magazine illustrator in the late 19th and early 20th century. French illustrations of the Belle Epoque were extremely popular and the leading example of this French influence in America was the Barrie firm of Philadelphia. Each of these paintings has a label on the reverse from the Barrie company describing the the particulars for publication.
