The blade of this Third Reich SA Marine Dagger exhibits factory cross graining along the length of the blade, areas of freckling, and light runner marks. The upper and lower cross guards are made of nickel with a copper lacquering applied to their exterior. Light freckling is observed throughout the cross guards. The walnut grip shows patina throughout, as well as a series of dents and a pea size chip in the wood on the upper reverse. The grip eagle an SA roundel are nicely inlaid into the walnut grip and appear to have a thin coating of brown lacquer. The scabbard is an early anodized version with freckling throughout. The scabbard fitting are lacquered with the same copper-brown lacquer as the cross guards, and also have scattered light marks throughout. The lower scabbard fitting has a copper-brown lacquered anchor soldered to the obverse. The SA Marine Dagger remains a highly debated dagger amongst collectors. There are some who believe they existed, as well as some who will continue to deny these daggers existed until substantial evidence comes to light proving their production and/or use during the period.
