Interesting rifle, 28" octagon barrel marked on top flat, partially under rear sight: "BALL & WILLIAMS/WORCESTER MASS". Right side barrel flat marked "BALLARD'S PATENT" and left side flat marked "MERWIN & BRAY. AGT'S/NEW YORK". Nickel plated frame marked on left side in 3 lines "J.M.MARLIN.NEW.HAVEN.U.S.A/PATENTED.FEB.9.1875/BALLARD'S.PATENT.NOV.5.1861". Rarely seen on John Marlin made Ballard rifles, hand ejector located on bottom of forearm. Select grain walnut stock and forearm. Nickel plated forearm tip, frame, and rifle style crescent buttplate. Case hardened loading lever, block and hammer. Reversible rimfire/centerfire, firing pin. chambered in .44 Long. Tang mounted mid-range ladder sight. CONDITION: Excellent with 95% mellow nickel on frame, forearm tip, and buttplate. Barrel is mostly a blue/brown patina overall. Wood is excellent showing moderate wear with scattered dents and light scratches. Bore is fine with strong rifling and moderate abrasions. Action is tight and crisp. -MKS-
