1859 vintage Colt 3rd Model Dragoon, serial number 18236. 7 - 1/2" octagon to round barrel, chambered in .44 caliber. 1 line barrel address, marked: "-ADDRESS SAML COLT NEW YORK CITY-". Blue with case hardened frame, hammer, and loading lever. Brass trigger guard and backstrap. 1 piece walnut grips. Matching serial numbers on barrel, frame, trigger guard, backstrap, cylinder, and cylinder arbor. Period replaced wedge, marked 8320. Left side of frame marked in 3 lines: "COLTS/PATENT/U.S." Cylinder marked in 2 lines "U.S. DRAGOON/COLT'S PATENT" in banners. Correct government sub-inspections stamps found in proper locations. Faint cartouche visible on left side of grip. CONDITION: Very good showing a grey/brown patina overall. Barrels has areas of moderate to heavy pitting. 10-20% visible cylinder scene. Grips are excellent showing minor refinishing and minimum wear. Bore is dark. Action is not operating properly, possibly a broken spring. Overall a nice example of a desirable Civil War era Colt Dragoon. -MKS-
