Sharp's Model 1878 single shot sporting rifle designed by Hugo Borchardt and known as the Sharps-Borchardt Rifle made between 1878 and 1881. Blued rifled scarce octagonal barrel with dovetail for front sight (sight missing) and dovetail for rear sight (sight missing). Barrel marked "OLD RELIABLE" with "Sharp's Rifle Co. Bridgeport, Conn." and matching serial number under forearm with another serial number crossed off indicating a possible rebarreling. Blued receiver with "Borchardt Patent" and "Sharp's Rifle Co. Bridgeport, Conn. U.S.A." on left side of frame. Hammerless frame with double set triggers and Vernier Tang sight gauged for 200 yards. Walnut checkered round knob pistol grip stock fitted with brass Scheutzen Swiss style buttplate. Walnut checkered splinter forearm with interesting brass nosepiece and hole for palm rest and matching serial number. Comes with factory letter confirming, that this was made in 1878 and confirming barrel length and caliber. CONDITION: 80% blue with handling marks on corners. Brass has aged patina. Wood has possible added coat of oil with some handling marks and a small crack in buttstock near buttplate. Good bore and mechanics. Nice hard to find rifle. DLM
