Manufactured in 1937 by Mauser under contract for Siam (now Thailand). Around 450 total Lugers were produced by Mauser for the Siamese contract, with 350 of said Lugers being manufactured in the standard P.08 configuration. Very few of these Siamese contract Lugers were available to collectors until the early 1980s, when 61 Artillery Models and 75 standard models were imported into the United States. This example is marked "1937" over the chamber, with crown over "U" proofs present on the left side of the receiver, front of sight base, and breechblock. Toggle is marked with Mauser's 5-line banner logo. Rear of frame is stamped with Siam Police lion's head crest followed by the Siamese property number. There is a double struck "ODIN, ALEX, VA" stamps on the frame, just below the serial number. Matching numbers include the frame, locking bolt, trigger, sideplate, barrel, receiver, breechblock, toggles, checkered walnut grips, and magazine. CONDITION: Metal components retain large amounts of their original blue finish, exhibiting areas of wear and some thinning that shows through to patina, as well as some light surface oxidation. There are areas of deep pitting around and under the grip panels, which is acceptable for these Lugers, due to the tropical conditions they were subject to. Bright bore, showing some light oxidation and well-defined rifling throughout. Checkered walnut grips show some smoothing, as well as some minor nicks to the diamonds and some impressions. Blued steel magazine shows some wear as well as a few areas of oxidation. A very nice example of a seldom-seen Siamese Luger, that despite being in tropical conditions, is still in good condition. -MLW-
