Originally manufactured in 1917 by DWM as an Artillery Luger, this Luger was reworked after the Great War to a standard P.08 configuration in order to comply with the Treaty of Versailles. The receiver is marked "1920/1917" over the chamber and features DWM military proofs on the right side. Toggle bears the crown over "ERFURT" arsenal stamp. All matching numbers, with the toggles, breechblock, and extractor having had their original serial numbers overstamped to match the rest of the pistol. Hold-open latch appears to have been renumbered at a later date. Haenel magazine has been renumbered to match and features an eagle "L" proof on the magazine body and bottom. Sear safety is present. Complete with a matching holster. CONDITION: Metal components retain generous amounts of their arsenal reapplied blue finish, exhibiting several areas of edge wear, some thinning on the grip straps, as well as some areas of oxidation beneath the finish. Strawed components retain fair amounts of their finish, exhibiting thinning all around. Bore is bright, retaining fair to good rifling and exhibiting oxidation throughout. Checkering on walnut grips has been worn smooth and bear a few scattered nicks, indentations, and minor chips. Leather holster is good, showing some scattered wear overall with the flap securing strap and buckle having been replaced in the police holster style. Manufacturer stamp on interior of flap is indiscernible. A nice example of a post-World War I reworked P.08 Luger. -MLW-
