Originally a Model 1914 Artillery Luger, this example was reworked in accordance with the Treaty of Versailles to a standard P.08 configuration. The receiver is marked "1914" below a "Death's Head" stamp over the chamber area with arsenal proofs present on the right hand side. All numbers are matching, with the exception of the grips and magazine, and with most matching components being renumbered to match the frame. Barrel and rear toggle link were scrubbed, showing grind marks beneath their serial numbers. Toggles, breechblock, and barrel have been refinished. Receiver has been touched up around the Death's Head stamp. Complete with a 1916 dated leather holster that is stamped with a Death's Head on the flap. Holster loading tool pouch is a replacement. This cataloger has noted many inconsistencies between all of the different Death's Head marked P.08s that they have observed, especially when relating to the stamp itself, and advises one to use their own intuition when observing one. CONDITION: Metal components retain large amounts of their original and reapplied blue finishes, showing wear that shows through to patina. Strawed components retain traces of their original finish, showing age related discoloration all around. Bright bore, retaining good rifling throughout. Grips show smoothing as well as scattered handling marks and impressions. Holster is good, showing some age related wear and handling marks. Makers mark on rear panel is partially illegible. MLW
