Lot consists of: two Japanese matchlock pistols. (A) With longer barrel and classic form, although noticeable devoid of the normally seen onion cannon muzzle. Stock decorated with brass inlays in floral patterns, underside of ramrod channel decorated with a longer piece depicting clouds. Top of barrel with brass florals and single silver relief fish, just in front of rear sight. Barrel finial as a half mum. CONDITION: Very good. Brass has acquired a mellow mustard patina throughout, iron barrel is evenly oxidation throughout. Action works appropriately when operated by hand, barrel with relatively smooth oxidation throughout. Stock is with one live split at left side from rear band, exercise caution. (B) With smaller barrel and classic form, though again noticeably devoid of the onion muzzle. Pins for stock retention are simple iron and undecorated, some brass at rear for retaining action also undecorated. Barrel has been attractively decorated with copper, silver, and brass in the form of a tree with a bird flying over it, two overlaid ovals with florals over breech. CONDITION: Commensurate with (A), with brass somewhat darker throughout. Wood is free of splits, but there is one reinforcement at wrist. Serpentine does not hold on cock. EW
