August 11, 12, & 13, 2020 Field & Range Firearms
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 8/11/2020
Lot consists of: (A) 1863 dated London Armory musket that has been shortened to carbine length. Original checkering fore and aft on the stock. Barrel was reduced in length to 21-3/8" and a "pinched" front sight was added. This was done fairly contemporary. Proper LAC markings on barrel. Correct cartouche with 1863 date. The ramrod has also been shortened, but is still threaded at the end. CONDITION: Retains a pleasing patina overall with some light pitting and strong markings. Wood has some dings and handling marks. Checkering is sharp. Bore is very good with strong rifling. Fine mechanical function. (B) Springfield 1863 that has been made into a copy of a Confederate altered carbine. Matching 1863 dates on the lock and barrel. Brass buttplate and nose cap. Buttplate has a spurious CS marking on it. Barrel was reduced in length to 25-1/2". The block front sight standard fairly high. To be a proper Richmond carbine, it would have to have a "pinched" front sight. The sling swivel from the front of the trigger guard has been removed. A reproduction sling swivel was added to the stock just behind the trigger guard tang. CONDITION: Retains a pleasing patina having been lightly cleaned at some point. Markings are clear. Wood has been sanded. Bore has strong rifling. Fine mechanical function. GR
