"New Model 1863" Sharps Carbine converted to cartridge and designated the "Model 1868" with roughly 30,000 carbines converted. Blued barrel with ladder rear sight and blade front and marked "New Model 1863" behind sight with three groove rifling. Case hardened action with "Lawrence" and "Sharps" patents on right side and slide bar on left. Cam type conversion. Walnut buttstock with iron buttplate and no patchbox. Carbine forearm with iron band. CONDITION: Barrel blue turning plum with shootable bore. Receiver turning a silvery brown with some freckling. Wood has traces of original varnish with usage marks and dings. Good mechanics. Nice honest gun. DLM
