Native American leggings, brain tanned, both extremely soft and supple. Each legging has a single strand of circa 1865 beads at top of legging, close to where each legging would attach to the hip area belt. The hide comprising these leggings is both thread and sinew sewn. There are original repairs on the hide (leg area) likely done prior to the brain tan process, probably from entry/exit wounds received on animal during the hunting process, and/or possibly the scraping/tanning process. The main legging area is painted yellow (Yellow Ochre). The fringe on these leggings is of the rare green ochre or paint. The colored wool poofs would appear to be newer additions. This is about as soft as you will find brain-tanned material. In excellent shape. Overall a very pleasing and eye-catching pair of leggings.
