He battled the French in the 1750's and fought with the British against the colonists in the American Revolution. He later traveled to New York City and met with Congress to gain assurances of peace and respect for the lands where his people lived. Congress assured him and then gave him the silver gorget which he is wearing in this rendering. They also gave him other gifts of silver and even land.
