Barrel set (A) 28" shoe lump barrels with brass bead front sight on concave machine matted game ribs with "280 28 GA" on milled out rear section, dolls head extension with silver inlaid "1" and double bead decoration at breeches. Left side with "GSI Inc. T'ville AL / GEBR MERKEL SUHL / MADE IN GERMANY", right side with "(Triple Interlocking Rings) KRUPP STAHL" steel designation. Barrel flats with German diagnostic proofs for 28 gauge. Splinter forend with point pattern checkering and Deely release, case colored on release and iron with matching last five digits of serial on interior. Barrel set 2 in .410 gauge with milled out section of rib reading "360 .410 GA" and proofs for .410 gauge, otherwise in identical configuration. Forearm also identical, with last five serial numbers followed by a "/2" indicating the second set. Scalloped boxlock with serial number and German nitro proof, engraved with simple scroll, Greener crossbolt safety, disc strikers, bottom with scroll surrounding Suhl blacksmith marking, trigger guard with sprig of scroll. Automatic safety. Straight grip stock with two panels of point pattern checkering at wrist and terminating in a horn Merkel buttplate. Cased in a green felt lined case with accessories comprising owner's manual, warranty cards, 28 gauge snapcaps, mop, and three piece wooden cleaning rod. CONDITION: Fine, showing light evidence of field use. 28 gauge barrels with just a few minor marks and a little rubbing at forearm; bores are very good, bright and shiny, with some light evidence of use at breeches, ejectors are well timed. .410 gauge barrels commensurate. Stock and action are excellent with a few minor marks from handling and operation. Case and accessories also fine. PROVENANCE: From the Carl Balderson Jr. Estate Collection. EW
