Manufactured by Walther during World War II, these commercial Heeres Pistole (Army Pistol) variations are near identical to their military counterparts, but exhibit a much higher grade of machining, as well as a much higher quality of polishing and bluing. The left side of the slide is stamped with the Walther banner followed by the manufacturer and caliber stampings, as well as "Mod. HP". Right side of slide bears a Walther eagle over "359" acceptance proof. Horizontal eagle over "N" commercial proof is present towards the front of the slide, right side of the frame, and right side of barrel lug. The serial number "23263" is present on the right side of the frame, and top of the right receiver side rail. Locking block is matched via the last 3 digits of the serial number. Barrel is a replacement. Major metal components retain a lustrous blue finish, with some smaller components being nitre blued. Frame is mounted with a set of 2-piece black bakelite grips. This example is complete with a blued Mauser magazine marked "P.38" on the left side, with a eagle over "135" waffenamt on the spine. CONDITION: Metal components retain bountiful amounts of their lustrous blue finish, exhibiting some light high edge wear, some minor nicks, and light thinning on the front grip strap. Machining marks are sharp, with some minor indentations beneath the finish. Mirror bore, with good rifling throughout. Bakelite grips show a few minor marks from handling and storage, but are otherwise fine. A very nice example of a commercially manufactured Walther P.38 HP pistol produced during World War II. -MLW-
