1 of only 50,000 commercially manufactured Mauser C96 pistols sold to the Austro-Hungarian army in 1916. Major metal components retain a reapplied rust blue finish, with other components being nitre blued and in-the-white. Top of chamber is marked "WAFFENFABRIK/ MAUSER/ OBERNDORF A/N", with the right side of the breech flat being marked "W.n. (eagle) 17", with a second eagle partially overstamping the "W.n.", indicating military acceptance by the Wiener-Neustadt in 1917, and with a second military acceptance stamp "HV (eagle) 30" just below on the frame, indicating acceptance by the Heeresverwaltung (Army Administration). Right side of frame bears factory stamps stipulating Mauser's manufacturer information. Rear of hammer is stamped "NS" for New Safety. Rear grip strap bears a vertical "13" above a horizontally stamped "T.M.A." unit marking. Matching numbers include frame, receiver, bolt, hammer, lock mechanism frame, sear, bolt locking block, floorplate, and grip panels. Firing pin is broken at the head and tip, but can be readily replaced. CONDITION: Metal components retain the vast majority of their reapplied rust blue finish, showing some minor areas of wear that show through to gray patina, as well as some nicks that show through to silvering. There are several areas of scattered pitting that are visible beneath the finish. Bore is bright, showing light oxidation and retaining fair rifling throughout. 2-piece wood grips show scattered handling marks and some impressions, but are otherwise sturdy and serviceable. An attractive and rare Austro-Hungarian Mauser C96. MLW
