Ballard style single shot rifle made by Brown Manufacturing Company, Newburyport, Massachusetts from 1869 to 1873 with around 1,700 produced. Blued octagon barrel with front flip-up sight and rear flip sight. Barrel marked "No. 38" and serial numbered to the receiver. Case hardened receiver with Ballard patent date and Brown's address. Fold-down tang sight. Walnut plain stock with case hardened buttplate. Walnut plain forearm with pewter nosepiece and case extractor button. Rare rifle. CONDITION: 80% fading blue with 10% fading case colors with traces in the protected areas. 70% original varnish with light handling marks and scratches. Good bore and mechanics. Rare rifle with some condition. DLM
