Produced during the 1850s-1860s era by a famous English bowie knife maker, this knife bears the marking "[R.] Bunting & Son, Sheffield". The 6-7/8" long spear point blade has a sharpened false edge and is separated from the handle with a heavy, flat nickel silver guard. The stag handle stabs are beautifully textured on both sides, and the obverse bears a nickel silver escutcheon. Overall length 11-1/8". The original morocco leather sheath has a nickel silver tip and throat and is decorated with gold leaf. CONDITION: This knife is in excellent condition with what appears to be its original blade finish, little or no sharpening, and superb handles with only a couple of small cracks. The sheath in very good condition with scattered light scuffing and dents. A very fine example of a typical Civil War era bowie knife. MZ
