Manufactured by Mauser in 1941 under contract for Portugal. The receiver is marked with the Portuguese crest above "1941" on the receiver ring, with the Mauser, Oberndorf address on the left sidewall. Portuguese crest over "1941" is also visible on the left side of the buttstock. Mauser eagle over "135" waffenamts found on the receiver, left side of the barrel, and on the bottom of the stock. Buttplate is stamped "brg" above an eagle over "491", indicating manufacture by H.W. Schmidt. Matching numbers include the receiver, bolt, bolt stop, trigger guard, floorplate, rear sight, barrel bands, and stock. The rifle retains a layer of dried packing grease, which has been partially cleaned off of exterior surfaces, yet is still caked along the wood line and in protected areas. Complete with the original matching bayonet and scabbard. CONDITION: Metal components retain most of the original finish with some extremely minor handling marks. The bolt face still retains all of the original blue on it. Possibly unfired. Original markings are sharp. Bore is excellent. Stock shows few handling marks with the exception of the bottom of the buttstock, which shows losses to the wood and varnish. Bayonet and scabbard are in excellent condition, matching gun. A well above average example of a Mauser K98 rifle manufactured under contract for Portugal. -MLW-
