Kentucky Style rifle made by Johannes Derr, Oley Valley, Berks County, Pennsylvania who worked from 1818 to 1831. Full octagon smoothbore barrel with blade front sight and fixed notch rear sight with barrel signed in script "J. Derr". Barrel has been set back and bored out to a larger caliber when converted to percussion. Gun has flint lock that has been converted back to flint with some what looks to be "JB Weld" around touch hole to hide weld. Flint lock looks to be original plate fitting mortise nicely with parts replaced at reconversion. Lock is controlled by double set triggers. Full curly maple stock with 1 -1/2" wide butt and brass furniture including a 4 piece patchbox with Derr's typical "Whale Tail" finial, brass touch hole pick and brass crescent moon inlay on cheekpiece with brass saddleplate. Patchbox lid release in toeplate. Comes with hardwood ramrod with threaded tip with worm attachment. CONDITION: Metal has aged patina with some scattered marks and some surface discoloration. Extra plugged rear sight dovetail. Lock is a reconversion and shows some added finish. Wood has nice aged look with wood having been cleaned and some wax applied. Brass has aged patina with a golden color remaining. Dark pitted bore with lock needing some adjustment. A fine looking Kentucky. DLM
