Hooded bead-on-post front sight dovetailed horizontally into the octagonal barrel with adjustable notch rear sight and tang mounted peep sight. Top flat signed "I.G. DIETZ IN KLEIN-SCHMALKALDEN". Patent breech. Lock signed "G. & W. PISTOR / IN / SCHMALKALDEN" in a reserve and surrounded by florals. Attractive hammer engraved in the form of a dragon. German silver side plates with florals. Barrel retained by three keys with German silver escutcheons. Vacant ramrod pipes with florals and knurled edges, reinforcement with floral finial. German silver nosecap engraved en suite. Trigger guard of classic sweeping Germanic form and engraved en suite with rest of gun. Small checkered area of forearm with florals. Elaborately checkered wrist with brass decorations and Germanic oak leaves. Rear of buttstock with stabilizing prong in and banded forest scenes which extends onto patchbox, left side with a wooden scene of a buck and a doe. Barrel shows evidence of being lined. CONDITION: Very good as gently preserved. Barrel essentially gunmetal grey throughout. Evidence of wood splice repair just in front of reinforced ramrod mouth and a repaired split at nosecap where slightly too much wood glue was used. Rest of wood crisp and attractive. Lock has had some oxidation cleaned off of the front at one point with some softening to engraving and Pistor signature. Metal has some age related staining that may clean. Action works appropriately when cycled by hand, bore is very good with sharp rifling and some oxidation. Buttplate possibly a replacement. EW
