Developed in 1858 by the Birmingham firm of Westley Richards and known as a Pattern No. 5 and was used to fill a cavalry carbine void in the British Army. Blued barrel with Whitworth style rifling. Blade front sight and adjustable rear flip sight. Walnut wood stock with leather barrel bands. Racking or Unit markings in front of blued trigger guard. Interesting wood buttplate. Stock has saddle ring bar with no ring. Percussion lock marked "Westley Richards". Possibly a gun made for the private market with no provision for a cleaning rod or sling swivels. Curious rectangular hole on left side of trigger guard. Guns like this often used by the Boers in South Africa. CONDITION: Overall good with 60% original fading finish. Bright and shiny bore with good mechanics. DLM
