Manufactured by Erfurt during the Great War. Receiver is marked with a Crown over "ERFURT/ 1915" over the chamber with Erfurt proofs on the right, Imperial German eagle on the left, and "KAR 98" on the left receiver wall. Matching numbers include the receiver, rear sight, bolt assembly, trigger guard, floorplate, floorplate & trigger guard screws, barrel bands, stacking rod, buttplate, and stock. Metal components are blued with the exception of the bolt assembly and buttplate, which are in-the-white. CONDITION: Metal components retain the vast majority of their arsenal applied blue finish, showing some small areas of wear and thinning, concentrated mostly on the barrel bands. Arsenal inspector proofs are sharp. Buttplate shows light surface oxidation. Bright bore with well-defined rifling throughout. Stock is good, showing numerous small dings and some losses to wood, as well as a crack on the right side behind the stock reinforcing lug. Stock has possibly been revarnished at one point in time. Arsenal inspector proofs on stock are clear. Overall, a nice and matching example of a German World War I K98a bolt action carbine. -MLW-
